How did it go?

Digital Futures 2012 took place on Monday 10 September 2012, at Theatre Severn, Shrewsbury.  The aim of the event was to look at how digital media can improve the way organisations communicate with residents and deliver services.

200+ people turned up to the event and the atmosphere was buzzing all day.  There was lots of networking and some great discussions going on.

I just wanted to write and thank all those involved in organising the Digital Futures event yesterday. It was excellent. A few of us linked with health and wellbeing services are going to meet up and have an informal chat over coffee about any collective ideas we might have. Too often with events like this there is an enthusiasm generated at the event and we don’t take it anywhere after so we are hoping to make sure that doesn’t happen. Brilliant! Theatre Severn is filling up nicely, and there is plenty of networking going on already.  Coffee is being drunk, smartphones are being checked, and speakers are just about to start – there’s a great buzz in the air.

And so it begins

It may be overcast in Shrewsbury but the day’s looking bright enough. Delegates were arriving as early as yesterday for the event. Apparently a good time was had in the Armoury pub beside the River Severn and no doubt the world was put to rights. The crew are setting up and front of house are ready. The doors open soon and we’ll be blogging through the day and tweeting our merry little hearts out, so follow #digifutures12 for updates.

Digital Futures event

More than 250 people will be heading to Shrewsbury tomorrow (Monday) to discuss how digital media can improve the way your organisations communicate with residents and deliever services.

The way public services are delivered is rapidly changing, mainly due to advances in digital technology, a massive growth in social media and major reductions in Government funding.

Councils and other organisations are starting to deliver services in new, innovative and more cost-effective ways, using technology to profoundly change the relationship between the citizen and the state.

Shropshire Council is hosting the ‘Digital Futures’ event at Theatre Severn in Shrewsbury, to discuss how digital and social media is changing the way organisations connect with their customers and residents.

The event is aimed at councillors and public sector workers, as well as any organisations with an interest in social media and the digital future.

Speakers include Nick Jones, who is responsible for the Prime Minister and Cabinet Office’s digital communications; Justin Griggs, head of policy and development at the National Association of Local Councils (NALC); and Carrie Bishop, a director at FutureGov, which works with local government to create better, cheaper public services using technology and design thinking.

The event is now fully booked, but parts will be streamed live and you can also join in online too.
